Bluemation

Automation for the Brewing Sector

Process control for fermentation, filtration, packaging and CIP cleaning. Recipe management, batch traceability and centralised supervision for breweries of any size.

Our Experience

Tailored automation for this sector

The brewing and fermented beverages industry combines delicate biological processes with industrial production demands: fermentations that must follow precise temperature profiles, rigorous CIP operations, high-throughput packaging lines and recipe management that guarantees reproducibility of each style.

At Bluemation we have worked with medium-scale craft breweries and large industrial plants. We automate from brewhouse control (mashing, boiling and centrifuging) to bottle, can and keg packaging lines, through fermentation control and filtration.

Our systems include electronic production recipe management, enabling exact replication of process conditions for any previous batch to guarantee product consistency. Integration with the client's ERP closes the loop with complete raw material and consumption traceability.

Sector Challenges

Key automation challenges in this sector

01

Fermentation and temperature control

Fermentation is the heart of the brewing process. Precise temperature control in each fermenter (multi-step profiles with ramps) is critical for product quality. We implement PID control systems with fermentation recipe management and continuous parameter recording.

02

Complex CIP automation

CIP cleaning in a brewery involves complex circuits with multiple destinations, butterfly valves and blenders. We automate rinse, alkaline detergent, acid and disinfection sequences, with conductivity and temperature verification at each stage.

03

Recipe management and reproducibility

Each beer style has its own recipe with dozens of parameters: times, temperatures, hop additions, fermentation profile. Electronic recipe management guarantees that each batch follows exactly the same process, regardless of the operator.

04

Packaging line integration

Transfer from fermentation and filtration to packaging must be coordinated and traced. We implement integration between the process area and the packaging line, with flow control, transfer pressure and parameter recording for each transfer.

05

Batch and raw material traceability

Food regulations and good brewing practices require complete traceability: which malt, hops, yeast, under what conditions and with what result. We integrate traceability with the ERP for complete batch records from brewing to despatch.

06

Remote monitoring and alarms

Fermentation and cold storage must be monitored even outside working hours. We implement automatic SMS/email alarm systems and secure remote access for supervision and response to failures without plant presence.

Applications

Solutions we apply in this sector

Automated brewhouse control

Mashing, wort filtration, boiling and centrifuge/whirlpool control: brewing recipe management, temperature and time control at each stage, hop addition dosing and batch parameter recording.

Fermentation control

Fermentation cellar automation: PID temperature control per fermenter with multi-step profile, fermentation recipe management, temperature and pressure alarms, and continuous parameter recording for traceability.

Automated CIP systems

CIP circuit automation for brewhouse, cellars and packaging line: automatic sequences, cleaning product dosing, conductivity/temperature verification and recording of each cleaning cycle.

SCADA with recipe management

Centralised SCADA for plant-wide production supervision: fermenter status, packaging lines, refrigeration and CIP systems. Production recipe management, alarm history and batch and shift production KPIs.

Packaging lines

Automation of bottle, can and keg filling lines: line speed control, CO₂ dosing, level and closure verification, label inspection and format changeover management.

Traceability and ERP integration

Complete batch traceability: raw materials, in which vessel, with what parameters and with what quality result. ERP integration for stock management, batch management and despatch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you automate fermentation in a craft brewery?
Yes. We work with breweries of every size, from craft breweries with 2-4 fermenters to industrial plants with dozens of tanks. We automate temperature control with custom fermentation profiles, recipe management and remote alarms.
What is CIP automation in a brewery?
CIP (Clean-in-Place) is the cleaning of equipment without dismantling it. In a brewery we automate the cleaning sequences of the brewhouse, fermenters and packaging line: rinse, alkaline detergent, rinse, acid and disinfection, with conductivity and temperature verification at each phase and full cycle logging.
How does electronic recipe management help in brewery production?
Electronic recipe management lets you store and exactly reproduce the process conditions for any style: mashing and boiling temperature profile, hop addition timing, fermentation and conditioning profile. It guarantees batch-to-batch consistency and makes training new operators easier.
